about
I wrote ‘Lose Yourself’ on the morning news broke of SOPHIE's death. The song is a letter to her; at first a reflection of the moments I’d had to her music in clubs, and then a broader recognition of how her music has brought comfort to so many queer people, sharing infinitely bright moments on the dance floor and revisiting them for years to come.
It's also an ode to the many artists who inspire me; Petshop Boys, George Michael and Years & Years, who've celebrated gay experiences in their music for so long. As well as, Robyn, Jessie Ware, Róisín Murphy and Caribou who sonically fuel me every time I sit down to write new music.
lyrics
Feel the warmth inside your voice
Hold myself here in this noise
And touch my soul
Turn you up I'll disappear
I am nothing when you're here
With no place to go
It will come and it will go
Like the waves that rock a boat
Not forever
I'll look up into the sky
See you there but I won't cry
Anymore
Baby, somethings can never change
But it will be okay with me, okay with me
I might, not be with you always
But in your heart I'll stay, believe, I'll stay, believe
In the morning, though things won't be the same
My love for you won't fade, my heart will never change
I promise, that baby, though things can never change
Oh it will be okay with me, okay with me
Come an hour before the show
Visit me, your spirit loves
So preciously
Like the hope that lights a heart
Even here right in the dark
You're surrounding me
There's a reason that I came
Here to place you're known by name
I feel at home
No relatives by blood
But a welcome just as such
There's no wrong
Baby, somethings can never change
But it will be okay with me, okay with me
I might, not be with you always
But in your heart I'll stay, believe, I'll stay, believe
In the morning, though things won't be the same
My love for you won't fade, my heart will never change
I promise, that baby, though things can never change
Oh my heart, won't fade away
Won't fade my love
Won't fade, no
Won't change, no
Won't fade, no
Won't change, no
Won't fade
